What is Data Warehouse?
In recent years, organizations have made investments in IT systems in order to arrange business processes and to take advantage of competitiveness. Relational data base located on these IT systems generates and stores substantial amount of information and also distributes the information on PC, main frame and server network system. However, it is not adequate just to gather and collect large amount of information without using it. In many organizations, this information does not support critical business decisions. Besides, it is not possible to manage and handle such huge amount of information. Therefore, new methods are sought to convert collected data into information that is the most valuable asset.
The Data Warehouse serving as a basis for these methods is information depository to store operational information, which is kept on data base in an integrated chronological format and to make fast and accurate analysis on this data base after completing procedures for the operational information, Unlike operational data base, the structure of Data Warehouses is based on fast analysis and information access. The data is updated at regular intervals. The Data Warehouses are accessed through specially developed tools.
